How We Design Each Voyage
Our methodology, such as it is
Deepkeel does not use templates. Each of the three journeys was developed by spending time on the water, finding out which anchorages reward a full afternoon and which feel like a convenience stop, which stretches of coast have a quality worth sitting with. The itineraries are specific because we spent years making them so.
The crew for each voyage is the same small team. Zulkifli handles the sailing; Nurul manages the provisions and the deck; Haris manages navigation and watches. Guests are briefed before departure in plain language, offered what they need, and otherwise left in peace to be at sea.
Southern Penang Half Day
Three hours · Afternoon departure · Groups of 4–6
A three-hour afternoon sail from the southern tip of Penang Island, departing from the Teluk Kumbar fishing village area. The yacht heads south past Pulau Jerejak, formerly a quarantine island with a layered history, and into the quieter waters between Penang and the mainland. Tea service includes scones, local kuih, and chilled lemongrass tea. The pace is deliberately slow — the crew adjusts sail to maintain a gentle, unhurried movement through the water. Guests often find themselves in quiet reflection, watching the mainland hills change colour as the afternoon progresses.

Kendi and Rimau Island Day
Full day · Islands southwest of Penang · Groups of 4–8
A full-day excursion to Pulau Kendi and Pulau Rimau, two small islands southwest of Penang that remain largely unvisited. The yacht anchors in clear, sheltered waters between the islands, creating a private base for the day. Morning activities include snorkeling over a rocky reef where butterflyfish and moray eels are commonly seen. A full lunch is served on deck: char kuey teow, grilled fish, and fresh tropical fruit — Penang flavours in a maritime setting. The afternoon is unstructured: swim, read, photograph, or simply rest. The return journey hugs the Penang coast, offering views of the island's less-seen southern shore.

Penang to Pangkor Overnight Voyage
Two days, one night · ~60 nautical miles · Groups of 2–6
A two-day, one-night passage from southern Penang to Pulau Pangkor, covering approximately sixty nautical miles along the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The first day is spent in open-water sailing, with lunch served on the move and a late-afternoon anchorage near the Dindings coast. Dinner is a seated affair at anchor — grilled lamb, roasted vegetables, and local desserts. The yacht continues to Pangkor the following morning, arriving for a morning spent exploring the island's Dutch fort ruins and fishing village. Brunch is served before the return.
